I made these for Easter and doubled the recipe. I chilled the dough for 50 hours and wasn’t overly impressed with the results. They looked nothing like the photo, more pale than brown. I also felt like they didn’t necessarily taste like anything, they were a bit bland unfortunately.

Hi Peyton! I’m so glad your first batch turned out perfectly! When cookies turn out flat, especially when everything else seems the same, it’s usually because the butter was too warm. Even a small difference in butter temperature can have a big impact, even if you chill your dough. For best results, we recommend using cool room temperature butter, ideally around 67°F. A digital food thermometer is super handy for checking that! If you don’t have one, our Soft & Chewy Sugar Cookies recipe has a helpful visual to show exactly what that ideal butter texture should look like. Hope that helps, and definitely keep us posted on how your next batch goes!

I made them again today, but I didn’t double the recipe, and followed everything exactly (chilling it again for 30 minutes) and they came out flat and thin. I’m not sure what went wrong, I followed the exact recipe. Do you know what might have gone wrong? Is there something I should have done differently?

I like to use 1.5 tbsp water, 1.5 tbsp oil, and a tsp of water per egg! I’m also allergic lol

However, my partner feels left out – he’s allergic to egg. Have you found any good substitutes or alternatives to egg/ is it still a yummy recipe if I leave the egg out? 🙂
