I got hooked reading different articles not only on baking but differences of ingredients used like baking soda vs baking powder, different types of salt, etc. I want to read more but I’m sleepy now…
Truly appreciate it.

Totally get it! If you love a smooth brownie, you can definitely skip the chocolate chips. The recipe will still turn out rich and fudgy thanks to the butter, cocoa powder, and oil—it just won’t have the extra melty pockets of chocolate. Still delicious!

Comment on Chocolate Old-Fashioned Doughnuts by Mel https://handletheheat.com/chocolate-old-fashioned-doughnuts/comment-page-4/#comment-276323 Tue, 29 Apr 2025 20:54:04 +0000 https://www.handletheheat.com/?p=6173#comment-276323 Hi! I know this is an old recipe but I am hoping you may have some insight. My soon to be 4 year old wants a chocolate donut cake for her birthday! But not a cake that looks like a donut. She wants a giant glazed chocolate cake donut. I am happy to pivot and use a baked recipe but I was wondering if I could make this into two large donuts to fit my cast iron skillet to fry in and then use the two donuts as the top and bottom layer of my cake. Any ideas if this would work, fall apart, end up raw in the center? Any ideas on cooking time/method? I am assuming I just need to experiment but in case it has been done, I do not want to reinvent the wheel!

She’s going to love that you’re baking for her! We haven’t tested this recipe in three 6-inch pans, but it should work just fine. The layers will be a bit thinner, so just be sure to keep a close eye on the bake time and start checking for doneness a little earlier. Happy baking, and happy birthday to your girlfriend! Let us know how it turns out, we’d love to see 🙂

Comment on Cheap vs. Expensive Ingredients in Chocolate Chip Cookies by Emily @ Handle the Heat https://handletheheat.com/cheap-vs-expensive-cookies/comment-page-2/#comment-276321 Tue, 29 Apr 2025 20:40:43 +0000 https://handletheheat.com/?p=57351#comment-276321 In reply to George Moy.

Great question! When M&M cookies also contain chocolate chips, you’re getting two types of mix-ins instead of one, so the price tends to be a bit higher. Even if they don’t include chocolate chips, M&Ms are generally a more expensive ingredient on their own, which can still raise the overall cost. I hope that helps!

I made them for my husband’s Saturday men’s group. On Sunday I had five guys come up to me and tell me they were their favorite so far I make muffins every week for my husband‘s Bible study.

Comment on Strawberry Swirl Cookies by Emily Larsen https://handletheheat.com/strawberry-swirl-cookies/comment-page-1/#comment-276319 Tue, 29 Apr 2025 18:49:27 +0000 https://handletheheat.com/?p=81268#comment-276319 My family really liked these cookies. I wasn’t sure how string the strawberry flavor would be and was pleasantly surprised as how well it came through. The chewy texture was lovely too. They are definitely a labor of love, and the swirls are somewhat challenging to maintain when forming the cookies into balls so I ended up squishing more than rolling some of them. I think it would be interesting to try other fruits too.

Looking to make my own birthday cake for my girlfriend’s birthday coming up, so of course I came to see what Tessa had! I know this recipe calls for (2) layers of 8″ cake, but I have 6″ cake pans and was optimistically thinking of doing a 3 layer cake (am I crazy being this is my first cake ever??). Would I be able to follow this recipe and just evenly distribute the batter in the (3) 6″ pans? I know the cake tiers would end up slightly thinner but do want something with some height. What do you think?
